If I'm spending $170 on a pc, I'm not pending an extra $100 on a psu

Stock PSUs aren't NEAR as bad as members of this forum seem to think they are. Now, don't get me wrong...If I'm building a serious machine...I buy a good PSU to protect my investment...but if I'm building a cheap machine, I'll take the risk. A GOOD psu is expensive. I'd say you have less than a 1% chance of that psu messing with your system, looking at dozens of HPs, Dells, Compaq's, Emachines, ect my family's had for multiple years without power failure, all of which had stock PSUs.

Like I said, If I'm spending $600-$1500 on a machine...I'll buy a nice PSU to protect my investment...but on a $200 machine? Prolly not.

Stock PSUs aren't bad at all for basic systems like this. Some of the generic ones can actually perform quite well. True, if you've got a good rig, get a good power supply. But for something cheap and more basic like this, a generic one should do just fine. Brands like Dell, HP, Compaq, Acer, etc. use the cheapest power supplies available and are at best the quality of this one from TD. Atleast they give you 400 some watts. Most prebuilts I fix have 300w only.

I'm not trying to talk you into upgrading to a better power supply if you were to buy this. I'm telling you you'll have to replace it because it's likely to kill itself within a month. How many of these generic psu's have you gotten lucky with?

15? 20?

The chances of the psu going out within a year is well under 1%...I mean, most dells, hps, compaqs, ect use stock psus and last years.

yea ive had plenty of dells, hps, emachines that have worked foa solid year or two with no problems
ive even usesed power supplies called "AGI" that worked fine in a build with a PD820 512 ram, and a 6200 and i never failed me

stop saying you'll HAVE to replace the psu because thats a lie, that psu will work just ine and i really doubt you will have to replace it ever

well, I don't feel like calling b.s. on you every time you reply. I said what I meant, and I meant what I said. The psu's are crap and are well known to make a pop, fiz, or zap, then it's all over. I've seen it happen probably a dozen times out of 30 or so.

You're either making stuff up or have the luck of one in a million.

And Brinson, don't kid yourself about dell, hp, etc using these bargain bin psu's. They're all tested, go through QC, and they don't use bottom-bucket products. If they did, they'd have an RMA nightmare. As much as everyone hates dell and other OEM companies, their goal as a company is to maximize profits, and they do so by using components that offer relatively high reliability.

Like I said though, I'm not going to agree with you, and at this point you certainly show no signs of wanting to learn about the topic. No point in me responding again.

What we see here is an outrageously stuck up guy

"You certainly show no signs of wanting to learn about the topic"

You see how he assumed he's more knowledgable than everyone whose responded thus far without actually providing any info or stats...

Feel free not to respond again, but I wasn't just "assuming" Dell, Hp, ect use cheap PSUs...I have them sitting around with cheap psus in them... I have 1 dell, 2 hps, an emachines, and an older IBM sitting here...Only one of them has a brand I recognize, Liteon...which I believe is more known for the DVD drives...the others are things like "Macron Power" or "Delta Electronics" or simply lack a brand name at all. The PCs aren't good but the PSUs are still functional after 2, 3 and 5+ years.
