Help with SMTP

Hey guys I am a noob with this so I was wondering if you could explain how to send messages using command prompt in a way I would understand? I have a computer with Windows ME right now but I'm getting a laptop with Vista soon.

if you have a memory pen then use that to find a program i did have 1 and i have posted the site before but i cant remember so llok through my posts

if it is on the same network, i know i can do this at work:

net send computer name type your message

You have to know the other persons computer name, though.
