Default Is there any hope?

I have a computer with a windows 2000 professional system. that had a blue screen problem. after lots of research i learned how to fix the problem. i had to replace a dll file. i successfully did that. then another blue screen popped up with another dll file i need to replace. however the recovery console i bring up with my boot disks suddenly wants a password and i cant get around it. I cant get into the system to change it and my nt offline password changer (chntpwd) does not load sam hive so i cannot change the password that way is there any other way without the installation disk?
