You dont get a signature till you reach 40 posts. At that point it is only text based. It isnt until you reach 100 posts that you can have a image. Computer Forums - Announcements in Forum : Rules, News and Announcements

The reason for it is a measurement we have taken against spam. It stinks for those that are legit but we have had issues in the past where people put up spam in their sigs and then post like crazy to get the links out there.
Since it was highly abused we have had to take measures to prevent things like it from continuing to happen.
