| Details: Note: Before uninstalling, make sure the VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) Remote Agent option serial number has been written down. The serial number will be removed from Backup Exec by this procedure and is not replaceable. A new purchase will be necessary if the serial number is lost. The serial numbers are saved in a file called BESERNUM.XML, which will be in the system root folder. Normally the path is C:\WINNT\BESERNUM.XML. It is a good idea to make a backup of this file before following the steps below. The following steps should be taken to manually uninstall the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Backup Exec 9.x, 10.0 or 10d: 1. Stop the Backup Exec Remote Agent Service on the remote machine 2. Remove the Backup Exec Remote Agent serial number via Additional Options from the Backup Exec server (not the remote server) 3. On the remote machine, open REGEDT32 and remove the keys below: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\Agent Accelerator for Windows NT/2000 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\BackupExecAgentAccelerator The following additional registry key also needs to be deleted, which is also necessary for Backup Exec 8.x. Otherwise, an entry will remain in Add/Remove Programs and Remote Agent for Windows Servers will not be able to be reinstalled. For Windows 2000 systems, delete the following registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\installer\Products\10A55C2358659 574A8CDA75C2E1CFCCA Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes. 4. Delete the following folders from the remote machine via Windows Explorer: C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\RANT 5. Empty the Recycle Bin and reboot the remote machine on which the Backup Exec Remote Agent was installed, to complete removal of the agent |
