Sony Sued Over PS3 Firmware 3.0 Problems

It seems like something inevitably ends up being broken each time there is a new firmware update for the PS3. To Sony’s credit, not every everyone experiences problems when a update comes out but this time around there is enough complaints to spawn a class action lawsuit. Anyone here having issues?

Lead plaintiff John Kennedy says Sony told him it would cost an extra $150 to repair his damaged console after he downloaded the software updates. Class members demand declaratory relief, compensation and restitution for breach of implied warranty, negligence and unjust enrichment.

I think its going to get to a point where companies are too afraid to innovate at the risk of being sued.

The only annoying thing, though, is that every single time Sony has a system update it tends to brick quite a few PS3s. Never happened to me, but I see forum posts about it all the time after major updates. I never see that kind of thing with 360 updates so I wonder what the issue is.

lol, that's because 360 will just 'brick' itself and politely tell you with its version of the BSOD...its prrrrrecioussss ring.

^That has nothing to do with updates though. PS3s have the same thing with its YLOD. Not as much as RROD but still quite alarmingly high failure rate and almost always past the 1 year warranty mark

Well, Sony shouldn't charge to fix all the ps3's they break with their firmware. It is ridiculous. If they're trying to charge people, they deserve to be sued.

Ya i don't think this is an issue of innovation. Just like in IT, if your update breaks the system you fix it, period. You can't push out an update, have that update break the system THEN say well sorry, you have to pay for that, even though we suggested you update that... and we were the ones that updated that for you.

That is just rediculous to think Sony actually said to these customers that they had to pay for this. I'm glad they are sueing over this. Make them accountable for their upgrades.
