Ps1 mod help

My friend and I are case modding a PSone and have a question,
during the whole "gutting" process of the system itself, it worked fine. We checked the system after every step and it worked each time, only until completely removed from the original case did it stop working. We have checked all plugs and can't seem to find a problem. Nothing is broken and everything is as-was in the case. what should we do to fix it?
