Is PS 1 Game compatable with PS 2 console?

Since I am having trouble playing my PS 1 games in my first version of PS 1 console, I am thinking about buying PS 2.
WOuld my PS 1 games will work on PS 2?

Yes, PS2 is backwards compatbile, so PSX games will work on PS2

to elaborate a bit on the answer:

MOST PS games will play on the PS2. There are some that won't play right or at all. At least that's the rumor. I haven't run into one so i can't tell you which ones they are. Just thought you should know

i have never had that problem or heard of anyone that has, so i wouldnt worry about it, sony designed the PS2 with backwards compatability in mind, so dont sweat it, even all of my peripherals wtill worked on my ps2 (except for my gameshark, since the ps2 didnt have the port on the back that the ps1 did) but other than that, everything has worked fine for me
