Can anyone please tell me what is the actual difference between the Playstation 3 80 GB v1 (Old Edition) and the 800 GB v2 (New one) ?
And overall which one is better and worth the bucks?
Thanks.
Also , when searched on google about the 80gb it shows up as the Playstation 3 80GB Core Pack.
What's meant by the core pack here? Means is there going to be a premium version out with a bit better features ? or is it just a name

PS : Also i heard about the 160Gb PS3 , is it a rumor or is it actually out with somewhat better features?

Please do not double post. Use the edit function.

The 80GB v1, v2 and the previous 40GB are all the same. The core pack is just the name Sony used to bring the 80GB version back. Only difference is the storage size. There aren't any official plans to bring a 160GB version out.

Okay , sorry for the double post. (I posted it a bit late , so didn't bother editing)
I was a bit confused earlier , thought like Microsoft had their Core XBOX 360 and Premium one a bit later on , thought Sony were planning to do something the same..
Thanks for the information.

Actually, there's a PS3 160GB on Amazon for pre-order right now...it probably has the same features as the previous models, however.

Well the original 80gb version had backwards compatibility for the ps2 games. Each successive version has cut out more and more of the backwards compatability. I believe the new ones dont support ps2 games at all.

Hey, I got the 80GB one too just a month ago, so I guess the joke is also on me... urg... I probably wouldn't have coughed up the extra $100 anyway

The one I just got fully supports them it seems. I've played a few PS2 and they've worked so far.

I don't think the 160GB version still hasn't been officially announced. It's been on Amazon for a while now.

As veed said, they definitely aren't all the same. I got the fist 80 GB, and I have backwards compatibility. I'm positive the 40 GB did not have it, and I believe the new 80GB does not have it either, but I could be wrong. Maybe you just got a leftover one from before? Anyway, all ps3s play ps1 games, so we're not really counting that when we talk backward compatibility, just incase you didn't know.

No I'm talking PS2. Most articles I've read on the matter say they are the same. I doubt I got a leftover since I got it from the most downtown and busiest Best Buy in Toronto and probably Canada . Sony are a bunch of idiots for bringing all these random versions out anyway!
