need help/advice =\

My copy of Initial D: Special stage [ASN] for PS2 arrived today...
I've been reading around on all these sites about how to get it to work...
here's what I have.
A V7 39001 PS2, a NEOKEY chip I need to install, a fliptop lid (homemade, at that =x) , and a AR2.
What I was wondering, was that I read that the USB mod would only boot PS2 backups and originals...
I've ripped a 1:1 copy of the game to a DVD-R, so would installing the USB mod and using it with the AR2 allow me to use the game?

I'm not sure, because it's a backup of an import and they didn't say anything about that...

anyway, if that won't work, if anyone has a better idea i'm open to suggestions (that don't require me wasting anymore money ~_~) .... thanks.
