Default backing up games

If I want to purchase backups of the games I own, what are the main differences between buying backups on DVD-R and those ripped to a CD-R?

I think the main difference is cost and capacity. Thats the only thing I can come up with, but then I dont burn the games that much.

None, except that the CD-R version will not have video for the most part. Depending on the game, the video is usually ripped out due to capacity, and the audio is downsampled, again, due to the low capacity of a CD-R.

If your PS2 can boot them, I recommend getting DVD-R's.
