Default I think i am going to buy a wii...

As the title suggests. i will be buying a wii and i was wondering if there is anything I need to be looking for when i buy a wii?
Is there a newer version coming out soon?
Are there any expected price drops?
Is buying a used wii a bad idea?
Can a wii play dvds?

There's a vague rumored price drop, but nothing concrete.

I wouldn't buy a used Wii unless you wanted an older firmware, but 4.0 is good stuff, so it's worth it to spend an extra 50 bucks on a new one.

The only way a Wii can play DVDs is with the "Twilight Hack", which has been nullified in the 4.0 firmware. The laser reads in the opposite direction; Nintendo's way of combating piracy.

I think you'd be okay buying a used Wii, because they're very reliable and compact, so I doubt you'll get one in really bad shape.

Still, though, the new ones are only going to be like $50 more than a used one like hikari said.

If you are very concerned about a price drop and don't 'need' the Wii right away, wait a few months. If they cut the price it will be around September right before the holiday season. Otherwise, just go out and buy a new one.

What all are you looking for in a Wii? It will not do past 480p resolution, so you don't need to buy those component cables for it. We can give you some game recommendations if you'd like

I will recommend Mario Kart Wii, Mad World, Twilight Princess, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl for starters. Especially Mario Kart. It is ridiculously fun. I love getting online and pwning n00bs all day. Mwahaha.

well here is the scoop.
I know someone that is selling his wii because he likes his xbox 360 better. The wii he is selling comes with everything a new wii does and some extra games ( Super smash bro, marvel ultimate alliance, wii sports, light saber battles and dragon ball z 3) and the warranty is still good until December. So, while I probably won't play dragon ball Z or light saber battles.. I could trade them in and get another wii game.. or something. And all of this for the nice price of $215.

What all do I need to look for/inspect/try to ensure i am getting something that is quality?

I would say go for it if you trust your friend. 215 bucks is a good cost for a working Wii with all those games. Just look around for scuff marks, broken pieces, etc. Also see if you can test it out.

FYI, a new Wii would come with Wii Sports, it's bundled.

yea, sorry. I knew the wii sports was part of the normal package. I got carried away listing the games.
yea, I told him I was going to try it out. I figure I will turn it on make sure the picture is good then pick it up and shake it a little to ensure no loose components.

Do any of you guys know how to put the twilight hack on to watch dvds and all that?

Like I said, you have to have a firmware older than 4.0, I think the last one was 3.4 that you could administer the hack.

But you will need a copy of Twilight Princess. If you don't want to buy it (I recommend it anyway, it's a great game) then you can rent it.
