Default um, help any1? xb hd

ok, i had this xbox for like 3 years now, and the dvd drive went out, and i salvaged a=everything from it even the hd, but i want to use the hd in my computer. its the western digital one, and i read some fourms on the internet, ok my xbox does work, but has no fans or heat sinks. the hard drive is still good, and im too cheap to go out and buy one, i would much rather get the free one i snagged from my xboz to work.right now its a 8gb paperweight and i would like to atleast try to make it work. i do not have any mod chips for the box, and dont plan on getting any either. is there any software that i can download to unlock the drive? if not, does any one know how to unlock it? if u do can u tell me in like alot of detail, because im kinda slo on these things

it is dangerous to un lock a drive if the xbox isn't modded but it is possible. it requires powering up the xbox with the hdd attached and allowing the xbox to unlock it, unplugging the ide cable while it is still powered and plugging in the ide cable from a pc that is turned off. you then turn on the pc and it should have read/write access to the hdd as it has already been unlocked. from there you can use a command line program to destroy the lock. i can't give you any more specific details but i hope thats enough info for you to research from

although you can unlock the hdd by using the hotswap tecnique...it is highly risky...it could 1: kill the hdd 2: kill your powersupply on the computer and 3: could fry your motherboard on you computer...ive heard of all three cases......btw i am an Op in the slayers auto installer help IRC channel
