Keep in mind that although your parents (and yourself) believe that you are mature enough to handle the content, doesn't mean that the next kid is. The truth is many young adults in the 10-16 age range actually can't handle the violence in video games in a responsible manner, as shown by the news every other month or so. The filters are in place for a reason, however mislead they are.

What parents??

You think everyone has 2 parents that care about their children and monitor their activity? No. Someone has to at least attempt to stop these psychotic children from indulging in violent games.

Nothing against you, I am sure you can handle GTA IV.....but if you were honest you would agree that there are kids out there that think that Niko is a real person and can kill thousands of people and cops and respawn in his cousin's apartment when he dies or wake up at the hospital when he is killed.

Okay this went way off topic. To get back on topic, you SHOULD be able to download the content via parental controls. I had a "child" account for 3 years because I signed up when I was 15. Then after I turned 18 I was still a child account until Microsoft added the "account promotion tool" that let me change to the right account for my age. Even before I turned 18, I could download any demo, trailer, or anything I wanted. I had all the parental controls set to allow any downloads, all ratings, etc. Perhaps they changed that with more recent updates, but I know I always was able to change things to allow downloads.

and you think the ESRPs little rules are going to help this matter???
NO
any idiot can get around it easily on their own

and if the kid is psychotic then taking away video games isnt going to help the matter at all imo, i think video games would help them get out some aggression. If they werent playing video games they would be watching tv and get the same ideas, **** if they are so psychotic then they could be watching something like looney toons and try to hit someone will a mallet

If the kid is mentally instable, why is s/he playing videogames in the first place? Those are the kind of people you hear shooting places up, is people that had some sort of mental condition and somehow was influenced by violent media (specifically videogames). Those kinds of kids with abusive relationships with their parents, I can't say that what I said would work, as the parents like you said wouldn't care about the kid enough to monitor what they're doing. But that's not a videogame's fault. That is still the parent's fault, because they're the ones who could have abused the child/made them mentally unstable. As for being born with a mental disability, its still up to the parents as far as I'm concered, for them to decide.

It should be up to the parents carnage, you are right.

But most of the time now parents aren't making those decisions. So in that case you just give up and say, "**** it"?

That's exactly my point. They're not making the decisions when they should be. They rely on what the media tells them is bad, and just assume that videogames are violent nonsense that should be banned. Yet they'll go out and watch a nice R rated movie with just as much violence, or a "family friendly" sitcom with tons of sex innuendo.
