Halo 3 beta multiplayer w/o xbox live?

If i get crackdown could i play halo 3 with say 4 people over and play it on the same console?

Ive seen videos of online play but didnt know if you could mutiplayer it up

No, I'm 99% positive you need Xbox Live to play the Halo 3 beta.
