| 360 paint mod and warranty question. well after seeing a video how to paint carbon fiber id love to do a green carbon fiber paint job on my 360. I would do the face plate first to test. then I would then do the Xbox. I would take all the proper steps to not get paint in the Xbox and what not via some good painters tape. my question on warranty is if I do not take the plastic shell off will I void my warranty? second, how would I go about covering the perforated sections of the case? to prevent getting paint inside.

| Re: 360 paint mod and warranty question. Skins are easily removable, paint isn't. Don't paint it without opening it, paint will get in and damage the insides. Take it apart and paint each piece separately. Any modding voids warranty, so might as well void it in style.

Opening the case to do a good paint job does.
People get custom painted 360's or ones with signatures on them and stuff, and that never voids the warranty so long as you don't open the case. |

| Re: 360 paint mod and warranty question. I've never heard of anyone who was able to get a repair with a painted console, most people I've seen say that they won't repair painted consoles. I'd look through the Microsoft Terms of Service or whatever document they wrote about the hardware and warranty and see what they classify as modifications.

| Re: 360 paint mod and warranty question. yea what they mean to say is
"you should take it apart to paint it, or you risk high damage to your system, thus this voids the warranty"
however, since MS warranty is rather.. bull.. anyway, since most of the things that they do to "fix" a broken system is just give you another system that might bomb out on you in a few weeks, the warranty isn't really important. Just don't do illegal things to your system like flash it and such where Microsoft can detect it and ban you from LIVE (and no, they can't detect your paint job) The only fixes you may need in life are some AIR CANS to clean out dust, Part replacement which is easily done by yourself, and in the worste case- Red Ring issues - which may or may not require a Reflow job. If yours is the standard Xbox360 Elite - your still in decently high risk of developing a Red Ring Error, as the "fixes" didn't arrive until RE5 version and the new Arcades with the new chips. Keep your air vents clean, and keep your system 6+ inches away from anything restricting air flow to /from it to help prevent death.
If you DON"T want to take it apart, you will need to partially disassemble , which will be a challange and might not keep the paint out- if you don't know how to take a 360 apart- look it up, there are tabs and such you can push that won't void warranty as long as you don't break the tab- they will never know.
Pull off the "top" and "bottom" perforations - use a bit of craft foam cut to fit ,and tape to seal them off from the INSIDE, and put them back in place.
The back perforation you will have to completely tape off - and then paint by hand. Same with the "perf" on the sides
You COULD paint the whole system without breaking the warranty - however it will require a lot more work - and still might damage your system if you get a leak in the tape job.
