| Recently I purchased this game and it runs excellent in first player with everything on turned up to highest. The only problem is when I joined multiplayer games, I lag pretty bad. When I do a scan for games, I join the lowest ping game which is around 50 or so, but when I am actually inside the game, my ping is never under 100. I am usually getting around 100-250 ping even though outside the game it says I am pinging like 30-50 to it. I looked around and changed one of my rate commands to 10000 as well. I am thinking it has to be a bug or something I am missing here with the unreal engine. It is definately not my connection as I have played counter-strike for 3 years so I know quite abit about connections and I get around 20-40 ping to cs servers. I am on SBC DSL running through a linksys router as well. My question is more so is that why would my ping be so low in the server search, and so high in game? |

| BTW, I have little to no experience with the unreal engine. So it may be something very little I do not know about that many of you take for granted, so please let me know if theres a known rate command or box i am suppost to be checking to fix this horrible lag ingame. I also put my connection in the options menu to DSL. |

| CS Players what can I say... Your 20-40 pings on CS are normal for CS which is about 6 years old correct me if i'm wrong. Any game running on the Unreal Engine. including Ut2k3, Ut2k4, America's Army. 100-150 ping is normal. The only reason that server ping is low is because your connection is idle at that moment. When you join the game you are constantly streaming loads of data. Especially on a demanding game like Ut2k4. So your 100-250 pings are pretty good. Now I shouldn't talk but I get about 50-80 in all my America's Army games, but thats because I have fast cable, and a lighting route to the servers in Georgia.

| I don't see how that can be normal as its a standard ping for most games, not just CS. And the fact that 200 ping would be considered good in UT is kinda strage as that means its 2 tenths of a second of lag. Why anyone would play in that seems alittle wierd. |

| Trust me you will not see consistly pings below 50 infact hardly ever but you will. The games are just way to demanding. I can see how it seems stang after playing a game like CS where you get sub-50 pings all the time so thier is virtually no lag, but you might as well get used to it because it won't get any better. Unless somebody decides to work on the Unreal network code. ![]()

| Ya, dont worry about that ping man. I am running Adelphia Cable Internet and on different games, I get different pings. For example, here are some differences: Call of Duty - 70-100 ping BF 1942 - 90-130 ping BF Vietnam - 120-160 ping As you can see, the powerhouse games require a faster internet connection, but dont worry about that as of now. Any ping under 250 should be fine, and you wont be able to notice it much besides a few second delay or something. |

| i dont know what all these people are talking about. ut2004 should be the same as cs. I am on dsl with a linksys router and my pings are almost always under 50 ping on ut2004. three suggestions. dont use the ingame browser to ping games use "the all seeing eye" www.udpsoft.com/eye it has worked perfectly for me for virtually every fps out there. numver two. configure dmz host in your router setup. Ipod number three check your connection for inconsistencies. go start>run>cmd type "ping www.google.com -t" In your command prompt. observe your ping time. for a dsl it should be around 44 e.g. time: 44 time: 45 time: 44 time: 45 time: 44 time: 168 if you see insonsistencies like this you may have a virus. I had MSBlast virus which sent out all possible packets every ten seconds, which did nothing but give me 9999 ping for a second every 10 seconds. it was a pain in the *** and i got rid of it with this : http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ |

| When your using All Seeing Eye or looking at servers in your browser list. Your not constantly streaming data back and forth from the server so your pings will be significantly lower. And I'm not saying it's impossible to ping under 50 but you will not see pings like CS. And Zippo it's not a few seconds it's 1-2 TENTHS of a second.
