Default RTCW: Enemy Territory

Is anyone finding this game to be a bit buggy? I can't seem to stay in a game longer than 10 seconds before my PC freezes. And not the type of freeze/hang where you can ctr-alt-del back into Windows.........no, the type where I have to do a hard reset. It does this with no other games, I've got all the latest drivers for everything in my PC, and I got the updates from the Enemy Territory Official Page. I downloaded RTCW: ET from the same page. Please help, I'm dying for some good old fashioned online fun!

Works great for me. I have had it installed on 3 Windows machines and 1 Linux, and I have never had any problems.

Edit: I assume you are talking about the free online multiplayer version

I have run it in Windows and in Linux, and it only seems to have this problem in Windows, on a Windows server. Linux on a Linux server works fine never had a problem ever. And I don't think there is a pay-for version of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. People seem to get confused ...

There are two games, here are their official titles, and what they should be called, and how they should be abbreviated.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein --- RTCW

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory --- ET, Wolf:ET, WolfET, Enemy Territory

It is not RTCW: Enemy Territory, as the game has nothing to do with RTCW.

That would be like calling "Counter Strike: Source" something like "Half Life 2: Counter Strike: Source" ... or like calling RTCW something like "Quake 3: Return to Castle Wolfenstein."

Thanks for the info General. Is there nothing I can do to fix it? Like set a filter ro only connect on Linux servers or something?

What version are you playing? I play 2.55, you may want to try out different patches. There's 2.55, 2.56, 2.60, and 2.60b.

But there isn't a filter for the servers like that.

I've got version 2.60, which is supposed to be the latest patch available according to the ET website. It seems it must be too new though, because I tried again earlier to play, and it kept giving me a message that says "et.exe version not valid", or something like that. Is there a specific server you prefer to play on? Maybe we can get a TF server up. Or is W: ET too outdated?

If you get "et.exe" errors you are probably trying to join a server that is running ET 2.60b and you are using ET 2.60 or lower.

Just try a different server, or get the ET 2.60b patch. Most servers have updated to 2.60b.

You may get intergrity errors on some older servers with the 2.60b patch, though.

Maybe your graphics card is overclocked, causing the freezes.
Also do a clean install of ET.

And yea, there's no such thing as RTCW: Enemy Territory. Many sites use that name, but they are wrong (as The General mentioned earlier).
