of course this article can really be countered by the question...what exactly is a "gaming PC", but then again theres so many other flaws but its still a funny read

"Is PC gaming giving way to today's more versatile and powerful consoles? Not according to a market study recently conducted by research group JPR, which claims that more gaming PC's have been sold over the past three years than Xbox 360s, PlayStation 3s, and Wiis combined. The study, which tracks the sales of three different classes of gaming PCs over since Q3 2005, found that 196 million units have been sold between then and Q3 2008"
Absolute Bull****. I do not know anyone personally, that has bought a pc. I know about 100 people that have bought consoles.
But like you said.. %99.9 of PC's and Laptop's sold now can play games... Old games, but good games never the less.

You know less then .0001% of the world...so your personal experience as to how many people you know buy gaming PCs compared to gaming consoles is kind of irrelevant

I do not live in a rich area, nor poor area, i live in a very average area of the UK. Simply put, everyone except from me has a gaming console, but not a gaming pc. everyone. It gives an average, the people i know mostly live around my area, but some are from different city's and some are from south london. But still, they have consoles and not Gaming PC's/ Console sales are very prominent, partiuclarly in the UK. But yes, there may be more gaming PC's sold in Korea and China etc.
My definition of a gaming PC is one specifically designed to play games within the last 2 years at an acceptable level, and not standard dell 950 video accelerator or 7300GS chips - because these PC's will play quite a few games - which is why i think the figure is so high.

Well, in contrast to oreo's statement, I don't know anyone who does not have a PC, save for a few poor potheads (who don't happen to own consoles either), and less than half of those selfsame people own consoles.
Your definition of a PC isn't the accepted norm. I had a gaming pc years ago when the radeon 300x was a sweet card. Doesn't mean it wasn't meant for gaming.
besides I'd say the general asian pc gaming market is enough to outnumber everyone else anyway, heh.
That being said, this isn't even something that can be properly judged -.-
I've got a gaming PC and 3 consoles. so....? I spend 95% of my time PC gaming, even though I have multiple consoles. I'm not the only one who has a pc and console either.
Saying there are more of one than the other isn't going to work, especially when people start making their own definitions of what a gaming pc is.
I dunno. I don't care much for console gaming these days, because the consoles aren't half as good as my PC, so why bother. So I would be biased, if I thought this study was even remotely accurate. They are handy for the exclusive titles, but hardly worth all the money I spent on em.

Sister - 2 computers, 1 console
Friend - 2 computers, 2 consoles
Friend - 2 computers, 1 console
Friend - 2 computers, 1 console
Friend - 1 console
Friend - 1 computer
Me - 1 computer but you could basically say its been 3 since I've had multiple motherboards, cpus, and video cards. And no consoles.
Note the multiple computers from my sister and friends were all 1 laptop and 1 desktop but they all got something that would be able to play games well.

Our definition of a "gaming PC" is very different than what most people see as a "gaming PC." To us, it is a mid to high end rig with good graphics capabilities through recent GFX cards. For the public, it is any computer that can run games, or any computer that has a graphics card at all (no matter how old or weak). |
