| Security/Hacking Mod | This ought to be interesting, BioWare’s technical producer Derek French says that Spore and Mass Effect for the PC will require online validation every 10 days before the game can run. "After the first activation, SecuROM requires that [Mass Effect PC] re-check with the server within ten days (in case the CD Key has become public/warez'd and gets banned)," said French in a post on the BioWare forums. If customers do not come online after ten days, the game will cease to function. "After 10 days a re-check is required before the game can run," added French. |

| AMazing with AMD | Ya, I was about to say. If you don't have access to the internet all the time how are you supposed to play? I think this will get shot down before release of Spore.

| Monster Techie | possibly. but don't you think theres something wrong with having to crack a game/service you went out and paid for? I planned on getting spore, and right now i've got a stable 24/7 connection. But that may not always be the case. once my shoulders all fixed up and credit is a bit more respectable internet might have to drop a few notches on the priority list. If i want to eat that is. XD I know the whole spore 24/7 universe update thing so havign the internet would be a big part of it. Having forced validation every 10 days is a little overkill though lol. Would be nice beign able to still play the game in the event that I don't have internet access for a couple months.

| I'm not a big fan of forced validation--is pirating really that much of a problem? It was bad enough on HL2, when that came out we only had dial up and it was on the family pc at that, not on mine. Had to buy a modem and cables just to validate on Steam. I've got high speed now, sure, but not all gamers have a stable internet connection. Makes installing games on multiple pcs the user owns (one desktop one laptop, for example) much more difficult as well. The dedicated always find a way around this stuff anyways so what's the point, really? All this hooblah just delays the inevitable crack for a few weeks and makes using the game more inconvenient for the honest folks.

| Monster Techie | i dont know if id call spore an mmo. you don't actually interact with anyone, which is the whole base for 'multiplayer'. the client just kinda passively downloads their created races.. last I read anyway.
