That seems like a pretty dark line to me. When you "MOD" to reak havoc or gain benefits its called hacking. When you "MOD" to contribute to the community (maps, styles, options.) your are legitamtley a modder.

(legitamtley is not a word, I don't think)

i love this -

"PC gamers feel entitled to what they know and are used to but this change will make the game more accessible to the average gamer. Sadly the modder is going to loose out (for now). Hopefully after people have played on the IW servers and get used to the game IW will find a way to help the people that mod games reattach to the MW community. Maybe a separate version of the game without any maps and weapons running on the same game engine can be sold to these folks."

i can see how there trying to manipulate it to try and get a bit of money out but if i modded any games (not a modder my self but dabbled a slight) i would prefer a to add stuff to not a striped down version where i have to add everything my self.

i know from the slight bit of modding i did people enjoy adding thing to some of the in-build parts of the game, take oblivion you could put a extra floor to a house already in the game

I see that as a pretty thick line if you ask me. Modders contribute to a community and hackers don't. I don't think you understand yourself. Wafflehammer showed the THICK BLACK line between them.

exactly..the way you make it sound is that they are almost basically the same thing....while i stat that there is a BIG difference.

O.K I don't mean to sound cocky, forgive me if I did.
But you mean to tell me that a hacker cannot do anything a modder can? I don't believe there on different skill levels, rather ,they use their knowledge for different purposes. I think its a little over simplistic to simply say hackers are people who cheat to gain benefits while modders give back to the community, make maps, and edit weapon statistics. Theirs no stopping a hacker from doing these things.

So if a hacker gives out a program to the public to cheat then by that definition he is now a modder. Or as soon as the modder gives himself/others the slightest edge in his own work he is now a hacker, whether it be a benefit for himself or others.

Modder and hacker are the same thing. There only titles. We imply hacker as sinister when it really should not be. Maybe we just haven't seen anything good come from what you guys label a hacker. Modder means you mod, which means to change, whether it be for mine or your benefit.

a modder makes stuff for the server..and hacker makes stuff to get around the server to cheat :\

yea they might sorta know the same stuff..but it's a whole different process to do stuff

EDIT: and you're talking like you can't mod/cheat on gaming consoles...it's the same thing..
