a friend of mine has a 64mb video card and hl2 looks as good as the orginal five years ago.

Yes, if you don't have a high end system, you can run HL2, but it will look very HL1-ish.

my system couldnt run hl2 very well at all and its a cel 1.6 400mhz fsb, rad 8500, 256 ddr ram

I can run it at 1024x768 with high detail and 4x AF and it runs really smooth. There's a little texture thrashing here and there, but with the way it looks i can deal
