| I'm building my first PC and have one part left before it can be complete. Everything is in the case except the video card. I'm not wanting to spend too much money on a card but maybe max of 200? I've got a 1.3 Athlon and 512mb of ram. No real nvidia vs ati preference. My friend says I should pick up a 5700LE w/ 256 ram for $130 On the more expensive side, I saw a 5900XT w/ 128 ram for 180, and 9800Pro w/ 128 ram for 200. Final question: which makes more difference ram or chip? Thanks for all the help. also, i got the cpu real cheap from a friend ($35), So I figure I may up that soon. OR, is a gig of ram more of a performance booster? |

| Get the 9800 Pro 128MB hands down. It is an awesome card for the money, and will cut through all of todays games. The 5700LE and 5900XT will struggle with Doom 3.

| Monster Techie | I have a GeForce 4400 Ti overclocked to 300/640 and I am able to play doom 3 on medium settings, at 1024x768 w/ 4x aa.

| If your thinking Nvida, check out the eVGA 5700 Ultra. With eVGA you also get the benefit of the Step-Up program. So if within 3 months you decide you want more power you can send in your old card, and pay the difference toward a new card. Which means you could pick up a GeForce 6800 $133.
