| Re: EA to use newest Securom in upcoming games i would not buy a game that has this...since i have dial I'm not connected that much...it doesn't work half the time. If they started doing that i think i would move to a console...i really hope they don't.

| Re: EA to use newest Securom in upcoming games oh bummer, thats going to be annoying. I seriously don't want my computer to be checked and "validated" at every point. I mean i dont mind doing it once when you install and play for the 1st time, but every 10 days sounds annoying...and it would make me hate the game as well.
Ahhh its a dawn of a new age. |

| Re: EA to use newest Securom in upcoming games Most here play games through Steam... so what would be the difference? Validate every week and a half, or wait for updates every other day? |

| Re: EA to use newest Securom in upcoming games Trotter, the part you are missing is that EA is treating their paying customers as criminals. That alone is enough reason for me to never purchase another title from them. No matter what copy protection you put on a game, it WILL be cracked in a matter of time, and the only people who are affected by the almost always buggy copy protection are the people who PAY for the game. And i refuse to deal with that. |

| Re: EA to use newest Securom in upcoming games How is protection from piracy treating people like criminals? Microsoft, OS X, Adobe, and jsut about every major software developer that is a paid for applicaiton has something like this setup. WGA, Activation with Adobe and so on. So is it that every compnay treats you like a Criminal?
In honesty take a look at it. If it wasnt for the fact that Windows was pirated by around 50% of the population do you think that Microsoft would charge $400 a pop for a serial? Well maybe. But the game developers who do not get 5 Billion people playing their game can not have piracy. If they only sell 50,000 copies they barely cover costs to make the game. If another 200,000 people pirate how do they make out?
It will be gotten around. Without a doubt. But Piracy for PC Gaming is killing the industry faster than console gaming. At least that is tougher to pirate.
If EA wants something to do a hankshake every 10 days. So be it. With Microsoft if you want some specific downloads from their site you might have to validate your Windows with every download. EVERY one. But EA is single handedly killing gaming?
More like the people who openly admit to being game pirates are the killers. If you ilke the game..buy it. If you dont like the practices done by EA. Dont buy it. Same thing that we tell people about Vista. If you like it use it. If not dont.
Blaming EA for trying to prevent as much lose to slaes as possible is like blaming Microsoft and Adobe for doing the same thing. At that point might as well be a Open source person and convert to Linux and be done with it. Complaining about every step to prevent piracy will only encourage it more.
Buy the stuff. Then prices will come down after a period of time cause companies are making the money to cover costs much easier and faster.

I wrote a research paper on this last year, how all customers are penalized as being pirates. All are treated as being guilty with no chance of being proved innocent. The problem is that all the "copy protection" and DRM do little or nothing to stop the acts of a very small minority of users.
Mak is right. This is no different than any other company doing the same thing. At least the program will only check in and not install some BS on your system like some others do. If we, the consumers, actually buy the game/movie/song/application, we do our part to support the publisher and drive down both the price and severity of all the copy protection BS. |

| Re: EA to use newest Securom in upcoming games Nah, but its getting to the point where it is becoming invasive. With anything from microsoft, your key is only checked whenever you update. With other games, your key is only checked when you install, or maybe when you update. But now, they want to check it every 5-10 days. And as odd as it sounds, there are in fact people who arent connected to the internet all the time.
As i stated in another thread, the invasiveness is getting out of hand. I had to download AnyDVD just to watch movies that i bought because of the stupid copy protection. There is a reason i havent paid for a CD in over 10 years. Because of all of the crap they stuff in a cd now. Thank god i never got hit with the sony root kit. |

| Re: EA to use newest Securom in upcoming games Don't get me wrong, mi amigo... I feel the same way about all of it. but it really isn't that different than what we already have, as far as I am concerned. I wouldn't think of trying to play online with anything besides an authentic copy of a game, period. So this is not that big of a stretch.
As long as the game was reactivated when I actually wanted to play it, I am fine. I somethimes go longer than 10 days between times I can sit down and play for a bit. |
