I can't get BF2142 to work. I installed it 3 hours ago....

The very first time I ran it, I got frustrated trying to find my username and password and exited the client.

When I re-started the client, the screen resolution adjusted for the cinematic as before, but then I just had a momentary black screen and about 1/4 second of sound before the window minimized itself and left focus. I can't get it to stay in focus more than 1/2 second, and have to force quit it with the task manager.

I tried rebooting - no dice.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling - no dice.

I tried EA's website and FAQs, but they have no information about such a problem with this game (though there are several mentions of this problem being resolved with a patch in other EA games)

I can't patch the game, because the update utility they tell me to use doesn't exist. I'm currently downloading a patch manually (though I have no idea if the version I installed is already the latest or not, since I can't get it in focus, and there's no version data attached to the executable.) I really don't expect that to work.

Anyone else ever have this problem or have any ideas about how to resolve it?

And no, it's not a minimum requirements issue, and I've already cleared it in my firewall.

2142 dosnt support that resolution by default, same problem with my 1440x900 widescreen monitor...you have to put a line in your shortcut

right click on your bf2142 shortcut, properties, in the TARGET block...change to this

"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

if you go into video settings, IGNORE THE RESOLUTION IT SAYS..as long as it says a default resolution...the shortcut will override

patch 1.25 is the current update

My system automatically adjusts resolution when I start it, so I don't understand how it's choking...

please at least tell me that I can play it at a decent, crisp resolution....

what is your brand and model of your monitor?

did you edit the target of your shortcut?

np, as an added bonus

if you disable your movies by going to your ea games/2142/mods/2142/movies folder and rename them with a ".backup" ending. make your shortcut say this:

"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050 +eaAccountName ****** +eaAccountPassword ****** +soldierName ******

**** being your account name, password, and soldier name respectivly JUST AS IT IS, 1 SPACE BEFORE AND AFTER.

you hit your 2142 shortcut, it will auto log in and skip movies. so you click bf2142...next screen will be the main bfhq screen where you find a server

NOTE: if you do not disable movies, the above shortcut wont auto log in
