Default I could do with some help building a gaming machine

Ive got about £450.00 to spend on a computer dedicated to gaming. I dont need a monitor keyboard or mouse, so i can spend it all on components. The only problem is i havnt really got a clue where to start.

Could anybody tell me some 'must haves' for a good gaming computer. So when i go to buy my comp 2moz i dont get taken for a ride!

Ever thought about AMD? They're great processors and the price is awesome.

1) if you are going for graphics/gaming, then go with AMD processor

2) for mobo, I favor SOYO dragon Ultra...I've had those mobo's in all gaming PCs I've built....theyre awesome boards with no problems, yet

3) for memory, get CRUCIAL ram...or KINGSTON...non-ecc ram...

4) for HDD, look for something that is large enough to hold many games, such as a 40-60 GB hard drive, or more....but keep at least 7200 rpm's. NOTHING LESS than that!!

again, this is all my opinion, these parts might cost you more than your budget, but thats a start for you. I dont know what the conversion is from USD to your currency, but I hope that helps you

Good CPU
Good RAM
Good Video Card
atleast 30gb hard drive

You dont need a good sound card yet. You need to be able to run the games before you can hear them

Plus AMD < Intel
ATI < NVIDIA

JamieKirk@Earthlink.Net I build computers for free. Whatever it cost me to buy the parts ti what it cost you.

Processor: Athlon XP 2000-2800+ (they have great performance and are very cheap!)
MOBO: SOYO Dragon or any AMD Compatible ASUS board
Grafix: ATI Card, Radeon 9600se or better (nVidia's new cards cost the same but don't seem to deliver on performance).
Memory: 512 MB of Kingston (preferably) DDR Memory
HD: atleast 40 GB, Seagate drivers are good
Sound: atleast Sound Blaster Live ($30-60 only!). Audigy is more like $80-100
