| It doens't even matter which is better. Just knowing that I can emulate any console I want on my PC is enough reassurance that with my PC I dominate both worlds. |

For example, with the XBox 360, you can buy the standard system, $300 or the Premium system, or whatever they call it for $400. With the Premium system, they toss in a wirelss controller, a headset, a higher quality video cable, S-Video I think, the hard drive is included if im correct, and its got a stylish metallic look..... Anyway assuming you buy that system, and you get all that stuff there are a few things left which you dont have. You don't have the high end HD Component Video Cable $40, your going to need 3 more wireless controllers $150. OH and to go with all 4 of those controllers your going to need the Nifty Play and Charge Kits, $80. Then your going to need the wireless adapter a whopping $99. You say your going to want to watch DVDs? That will cost you $30. Maybe you want a couple of memory card $80. And your friends are going to want headsets, so 3 more $60. So lets total all this up
Premium System: $400 (1 Headset, 1 Wireless Controller, Hard-Drive, S-Video Cable, and a Premium Look.....)
HD-Component Video Cable $40
3 Wireless Controls $150
4 Play n Charge Kits $80
Wireless Adapter $99
DVD Controller $30
2 Memory Cards $80
3 Headsets $60
Grand Total; $939.00
Thats nearly $1000 after tax for a machine only to be used for gaming, geeze thats a lot of money. And thats not including any of the games, not to mention the fact that they are probably going to be useless within 3 years. This was just to show you that the systems aren't as cheap as you think, especially if your planning on buying it as soon as its released, and you decide not to wait. |
You forgot to mention the $1000+ HDTV thats required to display nearly as good as a PC monitor and the new games are gonna be 10 bucks more. Plus probably pay for certain downloads(ie Oblivion). |

Along with being able to hook controllers up to a PC and PC having better graphics, higher reso, etc.... it's just no comparison. Anyone believing otherwise is just wanting to start an arguement.
The only thing I believe that consol is better at than PC, is making it easier for people who don't know what the **** they are doing.
i.e. computer illiterate rednecks who watch too much football and only want to play sports |

BTW you cant emulate any console, nor will you ever be able to..
N64, PS1, SNES, NES, and older stuff will work, but none of the newer stuff.

and thats how consoles make money.......
unlike a PC, you buy all them over time (usually) so it doesnt seem as big of a dent in your wallet.

Okay, now lets try to make it comparable to what a computer would have. $400 for the normal system. Forget the 3 wireless xtra (not needed), 4 play and charge kits... another subtraction, no head sets needed because we are keeping this apples to apples here, 2 memory cards... huh??? HDD, guess if you wanted to transfer save games BUT the HDD is removable... not needed, DVD controller - already comes with one (although not universal), wireless adapter? Guess if you want one, thats fine... tack that on also to you computer system as well, or do what I do and know how to network (cause I do it for a living, system engineer) and really after looking all this in an actual similar setup... well, the listing you have is way off. Maybe you may wanna add $50 or whatever for a cable to hook it upto a computer monitor but that would be up to you.
Now, if I truelly want to be a ***** and apple for apple comparison... lets see, add to the computer the cost of a dual proc (and then add some more because its 3x general pupose core), top of the line card (that one is hard to say because it has a very unique architecture), add xtra for a MBD with new architecture and 6 threads. Kind of think of it like this. How much (realistically now) do you think a MBD JUST coming out would cost if it was a tri core with hyper threading (because of the hardware threads) and this isn't even including the engineering you would have to fund that involved other architectural differences like unified structure for pixel shading, the communication of all the processors, dynamic procedural synthesis (allows for on the fly rendering of backgrounds, thus all the different lush trees and grass seen in some demos. They were NOT rendered via hand but via hardware), direct L2 read/write by the GPU, the list goes on. Sooo..... take all that into consideration and be more fare when comparing the computer with the console. This is also coming from a PC fan (comes with the job) AND a console fan. They all have there pluses and minuses. However, the above post was just not on the mark.

| That we will never know, however consoles have a VERY early history beginning before atari. For example:
1967 Ralph Baer designs the first video game played on a television set, "Chase" for Sanders Associates.
Maganavox' Odyssey, designed by Ralph Baer, becomes the first home game console. Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney form Atari. They hire programming wiz Al Alcorn, whose first project is to design an arcade game called "Pong".
So, its hard to say.

i say console whips pc mainly because of the pricetag. | But you can do a lot more with PCs. |
