Default Anybody else a hardcore RPGer?

I have racked up a collection of over 800 RPGs over the years (that's only the ones that can be physically bought (F2P MMORPGs aren't counted in the 800+ because I can't "own" them so to speak) and about 20+ different gaming systems to go with them (spanning from Atari Colleco to the now PS3). And I will openly admit I have wasted more of my life playing them than you would think possible (well over 100,000 hours gametime in the last 17 years).

So, back to the topic title: Is anyone else this passionate for RPGs?

And to broaden the topic a bit what about other genres? (even though I know absolutely nothing about them aside from TBS games like FFT, FFTA, FFTA:2, Tactic Ogre, Fire Emblem...etc but those are more RPGs than they are strategy games)

800 RPGs? You sound an awful lot like Blizzard (member here, obsessed with WoW and anything RPG)

I tend to only play the more mainstream ones. I don't really go for all the ones on steam or that type of thing. I did enjoy the Breath of Fire series and the Final Fantasy series. I mostly play WRPGs, but of the JRPGs I have tried, Lost Odyssey is an amazing one. My definite favorite.

Wow! That's what I call dedication. I hadn't realised there were so many RPGs, too...

I also own and have played Lost Odyssey as well as every Final Fantasy and Breath of Fire game ever to be released in english (and a few that weren't). And yep, I'm dedicated to the RPG genre. It happened the moment I started playing Final Fantasy on my NES when I was like 5 years old.

If it comes down to favourite series I would go with the "Tales of..." series. Tales had alot more to do than most Final Fantasy games ever did outside of the actual games storyline. Every Tales game has had a "Monster List" which you need to fight, kill and use a Magic Lens on every monster you see to complete it as well as it had a "Collector Book" where you needed to get at least one of every item in the game to complete it. Not to mention my favourite video game quote ever comes from a Tales game:

"Tenkou mitsuru tokoro ni warewa ari. Yomi no mon hiraku tokoro ni nanji ari. Ideyo, kami no ikazuchi! Kore de saigo da! Indignation!"

Most of the Tales games also have hard modes and insane modes to play once you complete the modes in sequence Normal --> Hard --> Insane

And to finalize my Tales of praising I'll add that they are a type of action RPG with random encounters but real time battles (so no more of that "choose the commands and watch them do everything" type RPG that most of the other old school RPGs used)

The RPG genre used to be my favorite when i was younger, but now I like rts the best, followed by fps and mmorpg (I like Lord of the Rings Online). I should probably finish FFXII and FFIII before the end of the summer (probably won't get around to it though). I also have FFIV and FFV unfinished, but they are just gba games, so I don't think it's going to happen. I've got FFVII, FFVIII, and FFIX on my psp, and I don't think those are going to happen either. I've finished I+II, X, and X-II. And yeah, I've played a few other things too.

I've been a huge RPG fan ever since I played Dragon Warrior on the NES and a short time later played Lands of Lore on the PC. The only games I really play at all these days are those in the adventure and role playing genre with a little Sid Meier mixed in. The Elder Scrolls would probably be my favorite series but I also really enjoyed Might and magic 6-8 (9 was crap), Jagged Alliance, and I've beaten most of the Final Fantasy games that were made for the original Game Boy when I was a kid. There's been dozens of adventure and other rpgs on top of that but the titles are escaping me for now.

I have only be getting into RPG's lately and I really enjoy them. When I finished Fallout 3, I wanted more. I am trying to install the DLC's but I am having some issues. Anyways, anyone know of a good RPG I can play next? I liked the demo I played for Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution on PS3 a lot. Any suggestions would be appreciated! (not trying to thread jack sorry)

Any one here finish (or at least played) Zork? Or any of the other Zork Series.

Here's another game that some people are going to roll their eyes with.... Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator.

My sister gave me FallOut 1,2,Tactics and 3 for my birthday. I am currently playing Fallout 3.

And then there is Black Isle Studio. They did some of the best RPGs. It was a sad day when that company went belly up. However most of the programmers have gone over to Bioware.

I miss turn based RPGs. Whatever happened to those?

I've been playing some of the older Final Fantasy games lately to get my fix.

I guess by older, you mean all the ones that weren't 11 and 12. Personally, I like 12's comabt system. I gotta finish it sometime. If I don't start within a few days, its going to have to wait till next summer. I'm not bring my playstation to college.
