Default What type of AVI Shall I use

I was turning a dvd into an AVI file so that I can Play it on my Media PLayer, I know I can play the VOB files on the media player but I'm trying to figure out how to take the 4.0GB file down to 700 MB. I'm Using DVD FAB which is great. I can make a Generic file (AVI), but I don't know what video formatt to use, I used XVID Mp3. I was able to take it down to 700MB. But when I put it on my Media player, it doesn't allow me to fastforward. looks like I have to watch the whole video with out fast fowarding or rewinding, that would be no good.

I'm assuming its the video (XVID) format that i used. Does anyone know which I should use??

Also i was curious, is there like a free ware file analyzer out there. I.e I have other AVI files, bt I'm curious what kind of Video/Audio format they are, but I don't know how. It's not in the Properties portion. Where can I find the Avi info??

Thanks again....
