What is ASF format file?

Hi, I just downloaded what I thought were some short video clips but they are in ASF format and I only get sound.

Are these a sound only format or do I need a special program to run them?

I use Winblows XP with Jet Audio to view all visual formats.

Thanks for that, although to be honest I didn't understand a lot of it, why isn't anything ever written for the beginner in that area to understand lol

put simply it's a windows media player format.

you can use dbpoweramp and download asf codecs so it play that format.
