I recently recorded a stream on my VLC player. It told me to rename it with...

name.MPG
I did that but when I open it up with the vlc player it only plays the audio. However the file size is 555mb, so there was video recorded.

This info might be of some help
I go to Stream and Media Info--->Advanced Information

it says

Stream 0
Codec:mp4a
Language:
Type:Audio

Stream 1
Codec: h264
Language:
Type Video

Try changing 'Overlay video output' in 'Video>General video settings'.

If that's set wrong it can cause you to just have a blank screen with the audio playing behind it.
