Default using HDMI and analog audio output

hi guys,

while HDMI provides superb video and audio output, is there any way that I can use both analog audio jack and HDMI simultaneously?

My Vaio laptop has Radeon 4570 with HDMI out, which I plug to my LCD TV. The video is certainly glorious, but unfortunately once HDMI is plugged, the analog audio jack is muted. By default, my LCD TV cannot pass through digital audio it receives via HDMI to its analog audio out. So I am left with two options: connecting my laptop to LCD TV via an inferior VGA connector with a fully functional analog audio out to my amplifier, or using the excellent HDMI out and sacrificing the audio content by listening via my TV's less-than-ideal speakers.

My amplifier is an old one without HDMI input, but is still capable of decoding AC3 and DTS channel via a digital optical input.

I am using Media Player Classic for the playback.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Peter

is it possible to run a cable to your amplifier from the laptop and run the hdmi to the tv? That way you'd have both.

Otherwise it looks like you might need to upgrade to a newer receiver.

Just make sure you change the default output device in sound properties from hdmi to your sound card and you will be good to go.

@ peter.cort: i did just that, but the sound coming out from analog audio jack is cut once the HDMI is plugged in

@ hefemeister: that's what I'm trying to do, but looking at sound properties there is no option to relocate the default output from HDMI to analog, the sound properties is the generic windows

audio driver is realtek hd, is it possible to install realtek manager to detect and select output? my pc has realtek audio rack and so i can tweak and manually select the audio output

what OS? Most you can right click the speaker icon bottom right and select playback devices.

i did just that, my laptop is running vista 64bit, sound chip is realtek hd, so two choices appear: digital out from ATI HDMI and speaker, I tried to select speaker as the default but still no effect, sound is still coming from HDMI.

i tried to search on ATI catalyst driver hoping that somehow it gives audio on/off, but there isn't any. which reminds me that my PC running on XP has realtek manager software which gives selections of outputs, however, Realtek manager software doesn't support vista 64bit

help is still needed.
