Default TV Tuner Quality (Hauppauge 150)

Hey guys,
I've recently bought a hauppauge 150 PVR TV Tuner card.
My main intentions were to use it to play my consoles on it. The PS2 on Composite, and my '64 on the tuner.

So I've got everything working, and i get it all going. But I have issues with the quality. It seems... jagged, and when there is lots of movement, it is very un-crisp. Which is particularly bad in racing games.

Anyway, I've tried nearly everything. I have the latest drivers, and have tried the "Hauppauge tweaker tool", and still have the same issue.

I hear the encoders can improve quality. I tried to get the nVidia Pure Video encoder, but i think it only works in Media Center edition.

I'm running Windows XP Pro 64 bit edition.

I know the quality should be better than this! My TV which is almost as old as me at home can pull off better quality!

I have no experience with TV Tuner cards whatsoever. Anyway, if anyone with any experience in this area could shed any light, it'd be greatly appreciated

Cheers!

When you are taking 640x480 effective pixels and displaying them at 1024x768 or higher (your monitor's resolution) it will look not-so-sharp. If you plug your computer into a TV then it will look normal.

To me, TV tuner cards are useless unless it's in a MythTV box plugged into a regular TV.

You expect too much, regular TV sucks. Encoders can't improve something that is already low quality, because the information isn't their to replace to increase quality.

Awwww snap. I wish I'd known before I went and blew £40 on this thing. I'd have been better off getting a cheap-*** TV.
So no one... no ideas what so ever?
cheers for your help.

I told you, that's what it's like. The signal only has so many effective pixels. When you display it on a higher res display, it looks blurry, theres nothing else you can do.

The signal only has so many effective pixels, so why would there be more just because you're watching it on a higher resolution monitor? IF it were better on the computer, then wouldn't everyone be watching TV on the computer?

well speaking of tv tuners, I have always wanted to get a tv tuner just to be able to use my computer as a storage device. Now do they make a tv tuner card that has a video in and a video out so you can send the picture back to your tv and display it there instead.

Hmm. We DO watch TV on the computer, and we find the quality to be much better than a standard television set. We are using a Hauppauge PVR tuner (not sure what number, offhand) and have no problems whatsoever.

IMO, you would've been better off getting a cheap TV for your consoles.

the better capture and encoders (more expensive) are better than tv. you can also buy 3-4 year dvd decoder card on ebay for 15to 20 buck (retail 300) that can play hdtv (1080i)
