Default squashed headphone jack replace?

I bought http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...106-395&depa=0
something like these headphones but w/o the little controller, a little different. Anyway I decided not to get the Bestbuy warranty and somehow squashed/messed up the headphone jack. its really twitchy and unless I hold it in a certain spot I only get left channel sound. My question is can i cut this little wire and splice a new jack from another pair of headphones and will that work?

yes, it should work, assuming that the headphones have the customary +'ve and -'ve wires. just make sure you dont cut the microphone wire at the same time.

The Mic and headphone wire are seperate at the ends, they split off into two jacks so there's no worries of them both getting cut, for some reason I was worried about since it has two channel sound, how can it work fine with all the wires mashed together, but the wire that is here is too small to seperate them so it must be workin that way already. THanks guys.

Make sure its not your jack on your sound card before you rip apart your headset. Try some cheap headphones and see if they do the same thing. If so, then its your jack on your souncard, not the plug on your altec headset.

BTW - A jack is the hole that you plug a PLUG into, not vice versa. A jack is the hole, and the plug is what goes in the hole. THUS male and female!!
