Question Speakers Hissing

I get a really faint but notable hiss from my speaker system. I don't know the model its some old Altec Lansing set i got from my dad a year ago. They always do it. Playing Music , Games, Even when there not plugged into the computer they hiss so its not my sound card. Im just wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this and knows a way of stopping it. :freak:

Practically every single speaker has an audible hiss if you put your ears close to it, yours might be higher than normal if you have cheep sound card and speakers (chances are you do)

Signal noise if its analogue your getting electromagnetic distortion along the line almost impossible to completey prevent when using it next to a computer buying decent speakers greatly reduces it though. Its the reason why if you have your mobile next to some speakers they fluctuate as you get a text the signal intercepts the line

I had this problem recently and I wasn't using a sound card or onboard audio. I have a receiver hooked up to my pc, at the time it was connected via usb 2.0 and it had a horrible hiss. Now that I've upgrade to an AudioTrak sound card and have the receiver connected to it via rca's, no more hiss.
