Default Speaker Connection Problem 5.1 Surround Sound, really weird story

So basically I got this really nice 5.1 surround sound speaker set, but I had one problem. When using xp, xp was unable to find drivers to make the 5.1 work. When I upgraded to Vista, it go the 5.1 surround sound working. But here is the weird thing. When I go to play a DVD its only coming through two speakers. From the subwoofer, their is a slot called the G9 decomposer. This then has a wire running from it to a little chip, which then has a usb port, to run a usb cable from the chip to the computer. Is their anyway to find an adapter from usb, to audio? Because this really sucks, and means I need to go buy new 5.1 surround sound speakers. But it would not be a total waste, because I did get them for free. IF you guys need pictures, I will take them, but I'm going to be gone for and hour or soo, so I would post them later.

Hello, may you give the name of the 5.1 system?
Does this system have any on-board settings that you can toggle with?

have you tried plugging the usb into your computer and seeing if thats how it works? some newer 5.1 setups use usb instead of 3 audio cables

also you might want to update your drivers next time something like that happens, seems like it would save alot of hassle

set your dvd software player's audio to 5.1 and your digital out to passthrough

shrink your pics. you still haven't named your card.
