Default Sound cuts/choppy in all Apps and mouse studders...help!

Hello,

This is new in the last day or so but I cannot seem to fix it on my own.

I can use the internet well but any song playing on a page (i.e. myspace) is extremely choppy to the point where it is obnoxious. Sometimes its not too bad but never good.

Also, winamp is very choppy now, and when winamp is open, my mouse studders when Im moving it around. This is very annoying and seems to be much worse it im running a program with winamp such as surfing the web. Even if I open up the task manager it gets a lot worse.

I thought maybe I have too many music files on my computer so I have deleted about 4gigs of music and unused data/programs to free up more space. I dunno if that would help but I thought it couldnt hurt. I have an 80g hd, but 20 is in a partition i dont know how to access and about 49g of my usable space is now used (was around 53g before i free up some space).

this sux, can anyone help me??

Im on a HP laptop with windows XP sp 2. I recently installed itunes for my new ipod a couple weeks ago, and also use limewire for music downloads. I wanna try to defrag C: but I dunno exactly what that'll do, if anythting....

THANKS to anyone who can help.

um, sounds weird, but if you say your computer was working fine a couple of days ago, then do a system restore to for example sometime last week. In case you don't know how to do a system restore, click on start -> all programs -> accesories -> system tools -> system restore.

Couple of things: It sounds like it could be running low on RAM, especially if you've had Limewire open for some time. A reboot without LW starting will test that.
DEFRAG!It's probably way overdue for a defrag and with the available free space, it is going to struggle with it.
Having many music files won't effect playing one (unless the drive is near full)
Also, can you see the 20gig partition? What troubles are you having accessing it?
