When i am playing music through itunes or the internet the sound on my laptop if fine. As soon as i try playing a DVD/ CD the sound becomes distorted and the DVD/ CD doesn't play properly. I think there may be a problem with the disk drive but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas of whats wrong or how to fix it.

Can you test the DVD/CD's in another system? Do the DVD's play fine in a stand alone player? If so i would say that your guess is right that there is something wrong with that drive.

Its also possible that the cd/dvd doesnt have the correct codec installed. Itunes and other streaming media work a little differently than playing something off of a disk.

True. Cant try to install the KLite Codec pack. If it works then it was the codecs.

I'm a complete newby with computers, dont know a thing. I've already got a version of KLite codec pack, shoul i try unistalling this one and installing another??

Download the K-Lite Codec Pack

Download the latest full version and install it. See if that works.
