SD card for my mp3 player

I searched for a while and couldnt find anything that answered my question, so I'll go ahead and post it.

Okay, I bought a RCA Lryca 1072A with 256mb of memory and it works fine... but this morning I bought a PNY 1 GB SD memory card to get more songs onto the player.

So, I format the card to FAT(the way its supposed to be) and I put all my songs the player, but when i put the card into the mp3 player nothing happens. There is no mode or button to press to go into the card mode so I imaginethe card is just supposed to add memory, like it werent an external device.

So the small card icon is on, which means the card s detected, but still nothing happens? I looked at the user manual and everything, but to no prevail?

Any ideas? Suggestions?
