Default real-time monitor disabled message

I am getting this message on my system: SPDIF-in real-time monitor, "The real-time monitor has been disabled because the recording source has changed". The problem is that my live game program is crashing as well as my video recorder program. I checked the sound control panel and the spdif control (playback and recording) is greyed out. I am using the Realtek AC97 sound, as well as M-Audio Delta sound card for recording instrument tracks. I usually use one to record then switch back to the Realtek when not recording (just for regular use). I only use one while the other is disabled. How do I get the 2 programs to stop crashing my system so I can use them? Is this caused by the spdif being disabled or is that something seperate? I have tried tracking down any spdif enable buttons I can find but maybe I missed something. I also have AC3 Filter installed.

OK, I guess I tripped over the solution somewhere. I tried 2 different things and 1 must have worked. I installed another sites AC3 program even though it is the same exact program under a different file name, I opened the DVCR program that was crashing and for some reason it did'nt crash this time and I found a live audio spdif setting enable which I clicked. Now all programs are functioning. I did notice that the Windows volume control panel setting for SPDIF is still greyed out so I suppose this was'nt the problem. I believe they enable when hardware is actually connected to an in or out jack to be used.
