| Question about sub woofer dampening I live in an apartment, and the person below me keeps whining about my bass. What ****es me off is it's not even loud, so this is putting me in a tough position. I have z-5500's, the sub is on 1.5 bars out of 10, and my speaker volume is well under 10%. Having to limit myself is ****ing me off, especially since the bass was never loud in the first place, I just think it's resonating in his room. There are no other possible positions available to move it (it's under my desk).
I have headphones, but I dont want to use them 24/7 otherwise there's no point in having my speakers. Is there anything I can buy that won't cost too much, but will stop the sound from resonating below me?

| Re: Question about sub woofer dampening Uhm, tricky question.
The problem is lower frequencies remain audible after all other frequencies (Go to the end of your house and you should hear the bass overpowering the rest of the music by quite alot)
You could try mopads, but i doub't that'd make much difference.
You have a mardy neighbour, ive had them speakers before. The volumes you talk about are not loud at all. |

Unless youre blasting the volume past 9pm or early in the morning, you pay rent and are entitled to listen to music in your own apartment.

| Re: Question about sub woofer dampening Or move to a ground level unit when one becomes available.
Setting it on a hassock might work. |

| Re: Question about sub woofer dampening I can't wait to get my own house. I live on the second story of a 3 story house in SF. The people above me have a 1 year old baby and they are always coming down telling me and my roommates to turn down our music because the baby is trying to sleep. Its really annoying. I wish there was a way to sound proof my room. Especially once I get my sub, I have a feeling I'm barely ever gonna be able to even have it on. |

| Re: Question about sub woofer dampening If the people above you choose to have a baby in such a house, it isn't your fault. I'd just keep playing music. As long as you play at acceptable levels during normal hours, there shouldn't be anything they can do to you. If they think it's a problem that other people are enjoying their right to enjoy music, they should put earmuffs on the baby or something, but it isn't your business.

| Re: Question about sub woofer dampening Ya we try to keep the music down after about 8pm. I just wish I could blast my music once and awhile cuz I love my speakers. They're reasonably nice people, a little annoying about some things but I don't want to make them unhappy. The floors are made of paper I swear, I mean we can clearly hear every little thing that drops, every time the baby cries and every time they talk above normal levels. Its ridiculous. I know they're going to hate me when my sub comes but I'm not going to just not use it because they have a baby.
Is there any sort of sound dampening material that I could put on my ceiling or something that might help? Or is that just a stupid idea haha |

| Re: Question about sub woofer dampening Our dorm is kinda like that...oddly enough in the bathroom. Every time a toilet flushes or someone uses the sink in the adjacent room or the above room, you hear it, must be the sound going through the pipes or something. The loud music isn't really an issue since everyone has a set of loud speakers in their room anyways though, also the people running up and down the halls makes quite some noise. Even in an empty, perfectly quiet room with the door closed you can clearly hear what people are saying in the next room over. I usually just put on headphones to drown out their noise and listen to music.

| Re: Question about sub woofer dampening ditch speakers and go with headphones Personally, I find them so much more satisfying. I admit I do miss the chest hitting bass sometimes, but the accuracy and detail of quality headphones makes up for it IMO.
