eh? A LOT of other mp3 players interface with standard Micro A USB cables, or Mini B's. The iPod cable I'm talking about is the one which starts with a normal USB plug at one end, but ends in a flat, longish plug.

Can you say anapod explorer, win amp and MGTEK dopisp? there are more.

I've gone thru two nano's, a classic, and a touch iPod. A while back I posted about a different player I wanted to get, a Cowon D2. I got to try out one of those about a month back, and I think even you would feel ok with calling iPod sound quality mediocre after listening to that. Seriously.

I DIDN'T say iPods were 'junk'. read the ****ing post. And the reason they are the #1 mp3 player in the world was because they WERE an awsome thing to get when they came out first, compared to other players of the generation. Now they've been surpassed. Iuno, for the average public iPods are fine. But if you're actually serious about getting some awsome quality, iPods don't cut it.

my response to my original posts. the small ipod (nano? I think) sound quality sucks. it distorts. the ipod headphones suck. that's is the real reason a lot of people say that ipod's sound suck is because the headphones.

I personally usually use the usb cord part to listen to my sound. it gives you direct input to the sound. because I have an ipod hook up in 3 of my cars. I have an alpine media player, an eclipse deck and an alpine cd player that offer a direct plug in to the ipod like most new aftermarket radio made since 2003-4. you can access song titles directly through the radio

I couldn't do that with a cowon player. I you know the player that somebody else made so that they could get rich off of the ipod explosion. that's what everybody else did. they made their version of the the ipod

I am against iPods. They are freaking everywhere and they aren't even that good. I had a 2nd gen nano, broke not long after I got it. And I have had many friends ask me to fix their iPods, unfortunately there in't much that you can do.

Apple's products are overpriced, lack features and are fragile.

I use a Sandisk Sansa. Now there is a company that knows something about flash memory. My sansa cost a fraction of the 4gig nano, is made out of titanium, has voice recording, radio, video play back (at the time nanos didn't have this) and has expandable memory. It has been great to me. I will never buy an iPod again.

My problem is when people try to bash the ipod, when in reality, if there was no ipod, they wouldn't even have a mp3 player. almost everything else (with the exception of creative) follow the ipod's lead. I've have 6-7 ipods and the only one that i had an issue with was the one my daughter drop in water and she kept trying to plug it in after she did that.

I hate everybody getting on here with their false info and H8rism (haterism) on the ipod. like the one that "the ipod don't have good sound quality" when they truth of the matter is their player don't have good quality. most of these posters listen to cheap plastic computer speakers as their main system so that tells you their listening experience level.

a lot of their player don't even have flat response. the makers of a lot of their player purposely boost the bass and treble along with volume output that will distort at max volume so that they will like it, because to a young person with an untrained ear, that sounds better than flat response, when in reality that will lead to ear fatigue fairly quickly

most people who don't have an ear for music, they actually like distortion and they can't even tell distortion until it reaches 60-100%.

I will always defend the ipod when people come on here to diss it. my kids and their friends has a lot of the other mp3 players yet they always have issues with them and they don't last long. I have one ipod that 6-7 years old and it still work fine. it just look ugly because of it's old interface.

it's one weakness is that it expensive (the number 1 reason that people hate it). I wish that apple would fix that issue.

We have rules in place that stop flame wars. Yet everybody is allowed to bash the iPod. If I said that I hate Intel or rock music or gays, I will get crucified in a minute. I don’t hate them. I’m using them as an example

I don't care what happens. I will always defend the iPods. I was just trying to explain that in the last post (and refute the fact about iPod’s sound quality sucks). But somebody who had nothing to do with the conversation, had to come on and turn what was a civil conversation at the time in a peeing match while he brag on his CHEAP titanium flash card that you can only use as a walkman.

There are 2 kinds of people in this world. IPod lovers or iPod haters. The haters make every attempt to diss the iPod. Most of their claims are bull. Lot of them are mad that they can’t afford one. Others just don't like them

1. Like the audio quality is bad. That’s true only on the older nano's. Most people don't like the sound of the iPod’s headphone so they blame the player. It really kill me when people that don’t have an ear for anything says this

2. Lot of people hate iTunes so that make them hate iPods. I hate iTunes too. But They have other options for an iPod. Anapod explorer, win amp and wmp (wmp need 3rd party plug in)

3. Lots of people don't like them since they are expensive. I love the player but don't necessary love the price. You have to realize with that that when they first started offer 20-40 gigs to the market any hard drive music player that wasn’t in the computer was real expensive. They would have built in 20 gig hdd car audio players for 2,000 then.

The wave of iPod sales made other companies make mp3 players which made the price go down. You can get a 4 gig mp3 player for 40 bucks now. Yet the ipod haters won’t even give iPod credit for that. IPod made it possible for them to own a cheap mp3 player.

But let face facts. You can do things with an iPod that you just can’t do with those other player. You can dock it on an new amp or new receiver. You can dock it on certain HDTV’s. They have a thing where you can mount it in the shower.
All midrange and higher aftermarket radio’s have a direct iPod hookup (Which shows the name and let you change songs through the radio)to them so you can have a 60-80 car changer. Thousands of people like the iPod for this reason only (I’m one of them).
You just don’t see it with any other mp3 player except for the Zune in a few selected vehicles.

I didn’t post this thread to start another my mp3 player is bigger than your mp3 player. I post to hopefully put an end to the dissing on the iPod just because you don’t like it. If it were an inferior product it would be different. But it’s not. It’s an opinionated product.
I know one reason that ipod dissing is allowed here is because even the moderators don’t like the iPod. I know that 2 of them that don’t like it.

Comparing an iPod to a cowon, a san disk or a creative player is not the same as comparing studio monitors to computer speakers where that is a word of difference. It like comparing Intel vs. amd or dvd-r to dvd+r. the difference is negible, so you should respect the player that you don’t like. I don’t bash you guys mp3 players, especially for no reason. I only even mention them when I see an attack the iPods thread.

There was a time here when I got help on defending the iPod. That’s was when the grown men was here before they got chased off by the kids who knew more than them
