Nero stinks at ripping. You could have used Media Player and got better results.

Well Mak, I have to say, Nero looks like a flight manual for an Apollo mission. I have very little hope of understanding any of it, within a fortnight. My initial question, I asked on another board, was:
"Which format should I choose in Windows Media Player?" I was advised by someone there, that Windows Media Player was no good and that Nero had a method for making ACC tracks and that WM Player will put DRMs (?) onto it (what are DRMs? Drums?). I've gotten into a horrible mess with it, after asking my initial question and now wondering why instead, I didn't just buy a small suitcase, to carry my CDs around in, instead of a laptop computer.

DRM = Digital Rights Media. It is a copyright protection.

If you are ripping CD's i have never had WMP out DRM on my MP3's at all. I have ripped upwards of 500 CD's with it.

Also ACC wont be support by all players. Just check all the topics in this area. EricB has made mention several times of the best format to use and which application he uses as well.

I'm sorry, I've had a look around, but can't find it mention of which format will be best to use.

I doubt I'll find exactly what I'm looking for, unless I ask the question directly:
I don't understand why it is, that I selected ACC for the format in Nero and they are all called 'MP4' when I look them up in My Computer.

mp4 and acc are the same thing.

320kbps mp4/acc is really good, go with that.

MP4 and ACC the same... Phew! Thank you, Rican...

That is a straight answer I can live with.

So would you go with the variable or average bitrate?

So, I think I've made some progress here. On the strength of another person's recommendation, I have downloaded Express Rip (et al). It's making .acc files for me, which I can play in Winamp; weighing in at an average of 50 mb per album. Does this sound about right to you? Or would you advise compressing them further?

Many thanks for your help (and patience!), Mak & others. :embaressed:

The Best Cd Ripper Period

That may be the topic you were mentioning, Mak. Was in the sticky index topic.
