Default Need help putting CD music onto hard disk.

Hello,

I want to put music onto my hard drive, from CDs. I have Nero and I have Winamp, but don't know what to do. Can anyone please advise?

|MG| LameXP 3.04

LameXP is free. It is the GUI of the Lame encoder. It will rip your tracks as MP3's for you.

Thanks. Though what I'm after is not MP3 but something called ACC.

I've been told I need something with good bitate compression. I'm used to a a certain level of presentation, having owned audiophile analogue electronics but am hoping to use a laptop computer I've just bought, for the purpose of storing and organising media files for travelling. I've tried MP3s and I don't like the sound quality.

Can anyone advise me on how do use this new media please?

You can use Winamp to do it:
WINAMP.COM | Forums - Make VP3/AAC NSV files
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Newbie AAC encoding help
encode: nero he-aac vs. winamp aacplus - Doom9's Forum

Or you can rip them to WAV and then use Nero AAC Codec to convert them to AAC/Mpeg3/Mpeg4 files.
Nero – Nero AAC Codec

Thank you very much, Trotter. Is there anywhere you know of that I can get step-by-step help on this? I'm finding it all very hard to understand. One minute it says MP4, the next, ACC. What is the difference or are they the same thing?

Many thanks,

There are programs listed in there that can rip CD's to any format.

For a start:
"1. Download unofficial Winamp 5 alpha from somewhere."

I wouldn't know where to even look!

You see, I've been using Nero in the last hour, to 'rip' the files. I did so with one album and it made about a thousand files called 'itx' or something all over the place and each track was absolutely massive in filesize. I've deleted them, but now it says the 'database' is not present.

I've tried it again, with a higher 'compression rate' but it's only made one file and there is no information about it.

I googled my questions and ended up here. I'm just bewildered by this whole process...
