Hi all,
I need to drive over to my friend's house tonight to help him hook up his X530 5.1 speakers. I've accumulated some info over the phone: It's approx. a 3 yr. old Dell with a SB Live Value sound card.
I've done some searching around and can't determine for sure whether this card is 5.1 or how to properly connect the plugs.
Any info on this would be appreciated.

my first SB Live! could only do 4.1 speakers. My 2nd Live! could do 7.1 speakers, but it was the Live! 24-bit. he might need to go to Wal-Mart and buy a Live! 24-bit for about $25. If he doesn't, than the outputs should be color coded. the green plug goes to the green output etc...

If you find after making sure you have the newest Live! drivers, that only the front left and right channels work or the front and rear channels are working but the center isn't, you need a new soundcard.

Would a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz work? I've got one I'm not using that he could have.

nah i saw some specs and it only has one front and one back port the x-530s which i own too are superb speakers which i might add have an extra cable for the central channel and the santa cruz doesnt have it. I suggest getting a creative sb2 value its the same as a creative sb2 but without the gold plating. Anything better than that is overkill for the x-530s.
