| music downloads I'm looking for a site that we can download music from, legally, preferably free or with a low yearly membership fee. We listen to newer county, rock and christian music.
Also what is the criteria on burning onto multiple devices and CD's? If I remember right there is often restrictions on the number of devices you can store/use the music on, is there always that restriction?
ANY info is appriciated, I have not downloaded music since the original Kazza.
Thanks in advance |

| Re: music downloads Hello,
Just about any application does this now. iTunes, Zune, Napster all do what you are looking for. You can even go to Download.com and find music on there.
Cheers,
Mak

| Re: music downloads I would advise to pick something that is NON-DRM. If you buy DRM, I don't feel sorry for you when your music won't play on devices, your music becomes unplayable when the host goes away, you can't burn CD's, etc. ITunes has a lot of stuff, but downloads are often DRM'ed and only work on iPods. I haven't really found a viable "legal" solution yet because everything is DRM or has a pathetic library of songs. I usually just buy CD's and rip them. No DRM, excellent quality, plays on anything, and the disc is a hard copy you can keep for backups or play in your car.

that was true last year. itunes was the first music company to do away with drm. you now have an unprotected m4a file that you can do anything that you want for .99

| Re: music downloads Yeah, but wtf is an M4A? If you have an iPod, awesome, go take your M4A and play it. Most people play MP3's, so that M4A won't do anything on my MP3 player or MP3 player software for my PDA. I haven't found a site where you can download MP3's that are good quality...though like I said, I don't really care to find such a site, as I usually download songs "for free" or get them from friends, and then buy the CD if I like it (CD's quality >>>> iTunes store, mp3 quality downloads, etc) and rip it at a high bitrate (MP3).

| Re: music downloads M4A is a file type that can contain either AAC (lossy) or ALAC (lossless)
AAC has a higher quality than MP3, and the ipod supports AAC/ALAC/M4A
Or there's always the option to convert it to MP3 if you don't have a player that supports it. For that, use dBPowerAmp
Though if it were me, I'd try keeping it in a higher quality format.

| Re: music downloads Quality wise, yeah, m4a owns. Cool for you.
But honestly, what (non-iPod) device actually plays it. It's not a common format. MP3 plays on downright EVERYTHING, that's why I stick with it. No problems with things not playing it. MP3's at 320kbps or greater are great quality, at least for normal listening. I don't own an iPod, so yeah, I don't want to switch to Apple's new format (Apple brought m4a into popularity, before iTunes, MP3 and WMA were the big things).
