| I bought a microphone about a month ago for the soul purpose of being able to communicate with people online. I know its not the microphone because it works with sound recorder, and with a seperate program of one of my PC games. But it isn't the actual game. It just tests your microphone. However, as SOON as I try to use it online on something like msn, or whenever I enter a PC game it seems to, shut off. We used to have a different microphone that would work online, but one day it just stopped. So I bought a new one, and it still won't work online. (I'm assuming the reason it stopped in the first place is that one of my siblings or my father switched a setting around by accident.) Well, does anyone have any ideas? PS: I'm using Windows 98 if you needed to know. |

| True Techie | Double-check your mixer settings and make sure the microphone isn't muted. To do this, double click the speaker icon in the taskbar - this will bring up the mixer controls. In order to use it online (I assume you want to use it for instant messaging), you have to set up your instant messaging program. I am not familiar with MSN, but with Yahoo Messenger, you must run the voice conferencing setup - it checks the mic and speakers to make sure they are working and helps you set the right volume levels to prevent feedback, etc. Hope this helps!

| I did what you said. And no luck. I don't know why people keep tellin' me to unmute it though. My friend has the exact same mic as me and it works while its muted online. We've checked all settings we can find and it don't work on my computer. So...any other ideas? |
