Default microphone to speaker output

Hello all. I am a primary grade teacher, and I am looking for the cheapest way to set up a system in which I could have my students speak into a microphone and have their voice projected so the entire class can hear them. Does this make sense? The only thing that I can think of is just getting a Karaoke machine, but they seem kind of pricey. Is there a way to have the children speak into a microphone via the computer and have their voice projected out of those speakers? Any ideas? THANKS in advance!!

Well, all you have to do is enable the microphone for "recording" then make sure it is sent through "playback" (what is heard through your speakers)

Go into the volume mixer and make sure the microphone section slider is at least 60% up and not muted. Then, in that same window, find the options, then select Recording. This will bring up a list of items right below with check boxes by them. Make sure that microphone is checked. Then, click OK and look at the microphone slider. This is the recording section. Make sure the slider is all the way up and is Selected (checkbox under slider) to record. You aren't going to actually record, its just selecting what source the computer will playback.

That should work. If not, post back

Yea do that. The shorthand is plug a mic or even pair of headphones into your RED computer audio input [MIC]. Then plug your speakers into the GREEN input jack, as they should be normally. Talk into the mic, or headphones.. whichever you choose. That should suffice.
