hp ipod? what's the difference?

I've fixed a couple of ipod by formatting them by right clicking them in windows and then selecting format. I would leave quick format unchecked so that it will run checkdisc too. then I run the ipod installer. but you don't see them in my computer, right?

when mine had that same exact problem, the ipod installer would say, it cant mount ipod and have that funny looking thing (I'm thinking that it was an exclamation mark) on the ipod, but it did showed up in my computer. the ipod installer can't mount it if it in disc mode (itunes won't recognize it either). in disc mode it is just another hdd.

I ran into that problem when I have got an ibook laptop that only had a cd rom. somebody wanted me to install mac osx 10 (a dvd) on it. so I put the ipod in disc mode (from the mac) and then I copied the contents of mac os x from my dvd rom on my computer to the ipod. then I install it on the laptop. mac can boot from an ipod (you can even install osx on it), windows can't

a few day later I notice that I had your exact problem (this was my 3rd ipod, so I didn't really use it) it took me a few hours to fix it.

I going to install itunes to figure out exactly how I fixed it.

it was simple to unmount it on a mac, but harder in windows

I was just explaining how I got my ipod stuck in disc mode, at the time that I had your exact same problem.

I just tried itunes 7. I couldn't find the option to take it out of disc mode

oh i can get out of disk mode but the only two things the ipod will do is go into disk mode with center plus play and diagnostic mode with center and prev. otherwise it does nothing besides show the apple logo then exclamation mark folder and shut off

oh ok. you must have another issue, because once I got it out of disc mode and ran the ipod installer to it, all was fine
