Default ipod problems

im trying to fix a 20gb 4th gen ipod with click wheel. it comes up with a exclamation mark in a triangle and a folder so i did the ipod reset. plugged into outlet turned on hold then off then menu and center for 5secs. it wont turn on long enough for the comp to recognize it so i was wondering is there some master reset or something i can open up the ipod and flash it or something

yes... plug it into the computer and use the latest version of iTunes to reset it back to factory condition. If that does not work, format the iPod (hopefully its in disk mode) using windows. Then, try to use iTunes again to restore it.

I forget which combination it is, but you can put the iPod into Disk Mode (which is like a hard drive state) manually by holding either Play and center button or Menu and center button. You have to hold them down for a little while. It will say Disk Mode at the top. When it says that, you will be able to format it using windows. Then, eject it and do a reset on the ipod, then plug it in and do a factory restore with iTunes.

You're going to have to completely ignore the ok to disconnect/do not disconnect. Just forget about them. Get it into disk mode. Plug it into your computer. Go to my computer. Format the thing.

EDIT: Its not that hard... i literally just did this 2 weeks ago.

You aren't doing something right. Is iTunes open during all of this?
